Choosing the Right Food for Your Body

The first step towards a healthy lifestyle begins with choosing the right food and nutrition supplements. You may think that choosing the right food is not that important but it actually is. Food and nutrition are the science of understanding how the human body uses food, how they are used, and how the relationship between food, nutrition, and health relates to the individual’s lifestyle. Nutrition also studies how various food substances interact with each other and how this affects the individual’s health.

Nutrition is extremely important to everyone because food is the only source of nutrients for the majority of people. Without food, there would be no reason for people to live, as there is no oxygen, air, food or any other substance known to man. People also need certain minerals and vitamins in order to maintain healthy bodies, minds and spirits. Nutritional information helps individuals understand how important it is to make good food choices and choose the right nutritional supplements to meet their specific needs.

Foods that have high levels of saturated fat, sodium, cholesterol and sugar have been linked to high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity. The food and nutrition source that is considered the best for meeting the daily needs of the body is whole grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits and nuts. Low levels of saturated fat, sodium and cholesterol are good for the heart and artery walls. Diabetics who select food that are low in carbohydrates also find that their blood sugar level is reduced, which aids in controlling their disease.

Diets high in refined carbohydrates lead to the formation of blood clots that can break off from arteries and lead to heart attacks and strokes. Instead of consuming food high in these substances, individuals should consume more fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes, which are rich in complex carbohydrates. Fiber-rich food make the stomach feel full, which keeps the energy level in the body constant. This helps prevent overeating, which leads to weight gain and can cause the arteries to become blocked.

Individuals also need to add some vitamin and mineral nutrients to their diet in order to maintain healthy bodily functions. These nutrients help carry nutrients throughout the body and provide strength to the muscles. Vitamin D is obtained through food, as its exposure helps produce the hormone that is needed to absorb calcium. Calcium supplements can be found in milk and other dairy products.

Unsaturated fats and carbohydrates, however, do not carry nutrients and therefore should be eaten in limited amounts. Instead of eating foods that have a lot of calories, individuals should eat sugary foods, as those have far less calories. Even though sugary foods have a lot of calories, they are not as detrimental to the body as are foods with high levels of fat. Instead of choosing between food styles and calories, choose a style that both satisfies your nutritional needs and does not cause you to eat sugary foods.
