Food is any material taken from the earth to provide nutrition to the organisms. In simple terms, food is food. One type of food can be considered food, while another type of food can be considered as non-food. Animal food refers to all types of meat and dairy products, while plant food refers to all types of grain and legume products.

Raw foods, as food, will contain all nutrients in their most original state, which is when they are still alive. These foods will generally have a very good taste, although some may have a slight odor. To improve its taste, most raw foods will be marinated for a period of time in some kind of flavorless fluid. To improve its texture, foods cooked at lower temperatures will often be softened, rather than hardened.
